UPDATE: INNOVATE award proposals must include a submission coversheet. The coversheet and guidelines (PDFs) can be downloaded from links at the bottom of this item.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies is initiating a new program, called INNOVATE. Its purpose is to enhance research and entrepreneurship across the UAA campus. As a first step toward this goal, the Office of the VPRGS is now soliciting proposals under a grants program for financial support of promising research or entrepreneurship. Formerly known as the "Chancellor's Fund," the INNOVATE grant is providing up to $200,000 to UAA faculty members and researchers in its program. Awards will be announced in December 2011, with funding to start January 2012.

Purpose of Funding: INNOVATE seeks to enhance and stimulate the research and entrepreneurial culture at UAA, by providing funds to encourage research that will lead to publications, intellectual property, or external grants.

Eligibility: All regular (tenured and tenure-track) faculty of the University of Alaska Anchorage who have a research component as a part of their approved workload are eligible to apply. Exceptions may be granted to other full-time faculty with strong research and/or creative ideas, who are encouraged to contact the VPRGS to discuss their proposals. Proposals from all disciplines are welcome.

Amount of Awards: Two award categories will be established:

  • 3-5 awards up to $25,000, for eligible faculty demonstrating a prior record of significant accomplishment in their field and proposing a substantial project leading directly to external competitive funding or IP. Multidisciplinary projects are particularly encouraged for these larger awards.
  • 10-12 awards up to $10,000, for eligible faculty proposing smaller projects leading to external funding, IP or submission for publication.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at 5 p.m.
Notification to Applicants: Friday, Dec. 16, 2011
Funds Available to Successful Applicants: Monday, Jan. 9, 2012
Duration of Grant: Calendar year 2012
