Nov. 17, 2011: Great American Smokeout

by Kathleen McCoy  |

This day, promoted by the American Cancer Society, aims to encourage smokers to use this date to quit tobacco for one day, to set a quit date or, at the very least, raise awareness of the health effects of tobacco and give users the confidence to quit in the future.

The University of Alaska Anchorage is joining the American Cancer Society in recognizing this annual national observance. UAA will be setting up booths in various locations around campus Nov. 16-22 to provide information on the benefits of quitting nicotine products, cannabis and spice; tips on how to quit, and referral information for those interested in receiving additional support in their quit attempt. Some booths will also have supplies for making a personalized "quit kit."
