Spring 2012: FASD workshops

The UAA Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services' Arctic FASD Regional Training Center is offering four-hour workshops on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

These workshops--free to all UAA students, faculty and staff--are recommended to all students who are in health or allied healthcare programs.

FASD Foundations (FASD 101) workshops
Friday, Jan. 27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., University Center, Room 144
Friday, March 23, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., University Center, Room 144
Friday, May 25, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., University Center, Room 144

FASD Foundations provides an overview of the cause of FASD, prevention methods, screening and diagnosis and treatment and interventions.

FASD 201 workshops
Feb. 24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., University Center, Room 144
April 27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., University Center, Room 144
June 22, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., University Center, Room 144

The FASD 201 workshop will cover how working with individuals who experience an FASD requires a shift in perceptions, what it means to live with a brain-based disability, interventions and how they can be used to support individuals with an FASD, evidence-based practices, intervention strategies and practice, creating networks of support for individuals and families and the role of health and allied healthcare providers.

Participants must have completed FASD Foundations (FASD 101), or PSY A490/A690 FASD courses prior to attending this workshop.
