Spring 2012: CCEL Faculty Colloquia Breakfast: Dorn Van Dommelen

by Jamie Gonzales  |

Feb. 29, 8:30-10 a.m.
Gordon Hartlieb Hall, Room 105

For the past five years, Dorn Van Dommelen has partnered with Heifer International (HI) to develop curriculum and a service-learning component in GEOG/INTL 101. His fall semester sabbatical focused on furthering this relationship by helping HI to develop university program plans. A CCEL minigrant assisted with the opportunity to visit two of HI's country-level program offices (Canada and Senegal) for a more intimate look at the organization's work in the field. The in-country field visits are intended to lead to strategic opportunities for further service-learning, including student research and short-term study abroad opportunities. For the colloquium, Van Dommelen will review what he learned from the country visits and discuss the student and faculty opportunities in greater detail.
