Wednesday, March 28, 9-10 a.m.
Gordon Hartlieb Hall, Room 105

Kevin Dow, assistant professor of accounting, is the speaker for the upcoming Center for Community Engagement & Learning - Faculty Colloquia Breakfast Series. Join CCEL and fellow faculty for report outs of CCEL minigrants given in fall 2011. The presentations are informal, followed by discussion about community engagement and project initiation and management for engaged scholarship.

Kevin Dow, from the College of Business and Public Policy has started a new and innovative program to assist crime victims, modeled after a successful project at Gonzaga University. The program partners federal, state and local law enforcement and Association of Certified Fraud Examiner (ACFE) mentors with UAA students in a group independent study course. Dow described what students are doing in the course:
"Forensic accounting applies the use of audit and consulting techniques to a legal question. These techniques are invaluable to future accountants and will prepare students for the transition into the profession. Students will conduct victim (client) interviews, prepare work papers and a final work product, draft expert and internal control recommendation reports, and provide a formal presentation on the findings to local anti-fraud professionals. This volunteer program serves not only to bring the real world to the university but also brings the university to the real world."
Coffee, tea, and light breakfast provided. For more information, visit the CCEL website.
