Come hear Juno Award-winning Canadian Latin and jazz guitarist Robert Michaels and his trio, featuring Alaska's John Damberg (drums/percussion) and Dirk Westfall (bass) in an evening of fiery original Spanish and Latin music.

Robert Michaels' fiery guitar improvisations are set to original song melodies inspired by Spanish flamencos, Brazilian sambas, baions and Afro-Cuban cha-chas and mambos, accompanied by the hot rhythms and bass lines of John Damberg on drums and percussion and Dirk Westfall on bass. Robert Michaels, a guitarist of great virtuosity, who the Ottawa Sun newspaper described as an "Flamenco's version of Led Zeppelin axe-god Jimmy Page...playing his six string with dazzling flourishes of macho color and, on occasion, with alarming speed." Robert is a prolific Juno Award-winning composer and performer based in Toronto, Canada. He has seven CD's to his credit including Paradiso, Juno-nominated Arizona, Utopia, Juno Award-winning Allegro, the Robert Michaels 2 CD set, the Spanish Guitar Collection and Cubamenco. Robert Michaels is truly an amazing guitarist and his concerts are not to be missed!
 
This is Robert's debut Anchorage concert on his 2012 Alaska Tour. The Robert Michaels Trio was well received and performed to sold out houses on his 2010 Alaska Tour in Kodiak and Haines, Alaska.
 
Robert will also give a Spanish and Latin styles guitar workshop from 3-5 p.m. on March 28 in Room 122 of the UAA Fine Arts Building (Admission: $10, bring your guitar).
 
The Robert Michaels Trio will also perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. on March 30 at the Valdez Convention Center sponsored by the Valdez Arts Council and give guitar and percussion workshops at Valdez High School.
