Welcome to Lora Volden, UAA's new registrar

by Jamie Gonzales  |

After a competitive national search, Lora Volden has been selected to fill the position of university registrar. Currently UAA's associate registrar, Lora begins her new role on March 12. Lora will lead the Registrar's Office and its staff of 18 professionals in providing key services to students, staff and faculty throughout the MAU.

Lora joined UAA in 2001 as director of New Student Orientation and as an adjunct faculty member. Lora created and launched a pilot peer-advising program that she coordinated until 2006. In 2006, Lora accepted the assistant registrar position, served as interim registrar in the summer of 2007, and was promoted to associate registrar in 2009. During her time at UAA, Lora has spearheaded a number of new programs and innovations. Most notably DegreeWorks, for which Enrollment Services received a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in University Small Team Collaboration in 2010, and a process improvement which reduced the time to post degrees from six weeks to six days. Lora has served as an ex-officio member of Undergraduate Academic Board, Graduate Academic Board, College Graduate Council and is a member of the UAA Policy Advisory Committee. She also serves on a number of statewide work teams: Academic History, AVOW Electronic Student Transcripts, Banner Student Team, DegreeWorks and Registration, a committee she chairs.

Prior to her arrival at UAA in 2001 Lora worked in a wide variety of academic, leadership and residence life positions at College of Saint Benedict, Idaho State University, University of Southern Colorado and Colorado State University. Lora holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Saint Cloud State University and a Master of Counseling degree from Idaho State University.

With such a broad range and depth of experience across the institution, combined with her strong relationships with faculty and staff in many departments, colleges, offices and our community campuses, Lora is well-positioned to continue advancing the programs, services, policies and procedures of the Registrar's Office.
