New leadership team members at Facilities and Campus Services

Facilities and Campus Services welcomes Edwin Delatorre as custodial superintendent, Glenn E. Brown as associate director of Facilities Maintenance and Operations and Catherine Shenk as Landscaping supervisor.
Edwin Delatorre, custodial superintendent for Facilities and Campus Services, will supervise in-house
custodial operations and the custodial contract with ABM. Edwin has over 18 years
of experience in the hospitality industry as an executive housekeeper and has worked
for UAA since 2008 as a custodial inspector. Edwin is an ISSA member and in 2011 completed
the Green Cleaning University; with an extended knowledge in green cleaning, Edwin
plans to implement a green cleaning program at UAA. Edwin has lived in Alaska since
1988 and has raised two kids as a single parent.
Glenn E. Brown, associate director of Facilities Maintenance and Operations, will supervise the
operational functions of facilities, which includes: Shuttle, Custodial, Horticulture/Landscape
and Fleet Maintenance.Originally from Myrtle Beach, SC, Glenn has worked throughout
the southeastern part of the US in the operations/maintenance field. Glenn is well
suited for this position with over 25 years of experience in the operations and management
of ocean front resort properties, property development, nursery management and landscape
businesses. Along with his extensive experience with disaster preparation and recovery,
he holds an Associate Degree in park operations with emphasis in forestry and landscaping.
Additional education includes: industrial distribution management and "lean management."
Notable accomplishments include the cover of Nursery Management & Production Magazine
in the April 2007 issue and service on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina
Nursery and Landscape Association. Glenn and his wife, Donna, have been visiting Alaska
for nearly 15 years before relocating to Anchorage. We welcome Glenn E. Brown to a
leadership role on the UAA facilities staff.
Catherine Shenk, landscaping supervisor, has worked in the landscaping industry in both commercial
and public settings for 10 years. She has a liberal arts degree from Bowling Green
State University with an emphasis in history, literature and art. Previous to her
horticulture career, she was a successful small business owner, operating a shop for
12 years in downtown Anchorage. Catherine has been with the UAA Landscaping Department
for seven years. The landscaping crew looks forward to supporting UAA by helping provide
a safe, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing environment to all campus users, while
working to move UAA toward fulfilling its role as a public square by providing the
best possible service.
