Hanna Johansson voted 2011-12 GNAC Female Athlete of the Year

Hanna Johansson voted 2011-12 GNAC Female Athlete of the YearSeawolves' basketball star Hanna Johansson has been voted the 2011-12 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Year in balloting by the league's 10 athletic directors.

Johansson, who outpointed Seattle Pacific track standout Ali Worthen 25-17 in the balloting, led the Alaska Anchorage's women's basketball team to a 30-5 record and the GNAC and NCAA West Regional titles this season. The GNAC Player of the Year also helped the Seawolves finish with a No. 7 ranking in the final WBCA Top 25 poll as UAA stayed ranked in the top 20 her entire career.

The Gothenburg, Sweden, native was named to both the WBCA (coaches) and Daktronics (sports information directors) All-American teams, earning first-team honors on the coaches' team and third-team Daktronics honors.

Johansson becomes the first Seawolf woman to win the award in the 11-year history of the league and joins 2007-08 men's winner David Registe (track & field) as the second UAA athlete to earn the honor.
