UAA alumnus on 48-day bike trip to benefit the American Lung Association

Jeffrey Stelter, who earned his bachelor's in journalism and public communications from UAA in 2002, is currently representing the Northwest chapter of the American Lung Association (ALA) on Big Ride Across America. Big Ride is a seven-week, 3,300-mile bicycle ride from Seattle, Wash. to Washington, D.C. to raise funds and awareness for the ALA.

Stelter and the other 20 riders in the crew are already in Montana and more than a week into their trip, but Stelter's own journey began earlier this year.

"My personal story began six months ago when I was let go from my job as a marketing guru and left searching for a new position," Stelter said. "After numerous interviews and riding an emotional roller coaster the past six months, I decided I needed a break."

"I could have simply taken a weekend off from job hunting and relaxed, but an opportunity arose and I decided to do something a little bit more--ride a bicycle across America for a great cause. As a 36-year-old adventurist who loves life and what it has to offer, it has always been a goal of mine to bicycle across America and I just could not pass this up."
