The students who have been taking part in Alaska WWAMI's Della Keats summer programs
will be presenting their research projects this week. The Della Keats program is a
six-week residential program that provides pre-college training to talented high school
and pre-college students from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds who are
interested in developing medical, nursing or other health-related careers.
As part of their program (which also includes job-shadowing, course work and college prep), students in the Della Keats Summer Enrichment Program (Della Keats 1) have completed integrative literature-based research projects that investigate major health problems from three different perspectives: a core science perspective, a diagnosis/treatment perspective and a public health perspective.
These students will be presenting on Wednesday, July 25, and Thursday, July 26, in Room 106 of the Health Sciences Building from 9:15 a.m.-noon.
Students in the Della Keats Summer Research Program (Della Keats 2), all of whom completed Della Keats 1 during the summer of 2011, have spent their six weeks conducting mentored research with UAA faculty in either Public Health or Biological Sciences.
These students will be presenting their research findings on Thursday, July 26, in Room 120 of the ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building from 1-3 p.m.
All of these presentations are open to the public.
