"Developments in the Arctic: How Best to Proceed Discussion"
Monday, Oct. 1, 5-7 p.m.

UAA faculty Darren Prokop (Global Logistics), John Mouracade (Philosophy) and Orson Smith (Engineering) come together to discuss the Arctic today. Topics include Challenges for Arctic Navigation, Triple Bottom Line Accounting and Changing Ice Formations.

"Force and Enforcement: A Panel Discussion"
Tuesday, Oct. 2, 5-7 p.m.

Given the recurrence of lethal confrontations at schools, in Anchorage, and nationwide, this event provides an ideal opportunity for people come together to learn about principles guiding law enforcement and security.

Panelists include Kim Patterson, director of UAA Student Support Services and author of "Swift Justice: Leveling the Playing Field for America's Re-entry Citizens," Troy Payne, UAA Justice Center faculty, whose research includes community problem-solving, reporter Casey Grove from Anchorage Daily News and others.

"In Dublin Town, Where I Was Born"
Wednesday, Oct. 3, 5-7 p.m.

Join Philip Price as he performs and explains the history of the songs from his debut CD, "In Dublin Town, Where I Was Born." In addition to being a UAA professor of logistics, Philip is a native of Dublin, Ireland and an Irish traditional singer and musician. Like many Irishmen, Philip was born singing and has been collecting, performing and writing Irish ballads for many years.

Also joining Philip will be Ben Saylor, a talented and versatile musician who also works at UAA's Institute for Social and Economic Research as a research associate and programmer. Ben plays many traditional Irish and folk instruments and honed his skills at the Willy Clancy Memorial Festival in Ireland.

"Full Set of Aces? -- Oil Taxation in Alaska"
Thursday, Oct. 4, 5-7 p.m.

Join Ceesar X. Martinson and other members of Backbone (David Gottstein, Malcolm Roberts, Mike Kenney and Chancy Croft) for a background, analysis and look at the future of oil taxation in Alaska.
