Please join us for CAFE's New Faculty Book Group to discuss Robert Boice's well-received guidebook, Advice for New Faculty Members.

The book introduces the "most reliable research differentiating between new faculty who thrive and those who struggle. By following its practical, easy-to-use rules, new faculty can learn to teach with the highest levels of student approval, involvement and comprehension time--with only modest preparation time." The book offers similar suggestions for writing more prolifically with ease and quickly integrating into academic culture. Light lunch will be served.

Making Learning Visible (SoTL) Book Group: A Beginning Exploration of Assessing and Documenting Your Teaching

Difficult Dialogues: Civility in America and in the Classroom
Friday, Oct. 12, 12-2 p.m.
UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

What has happened to civility in America? How do the media influence the lack of civility? Does this lack of civility manifest itself in our classrooms? This session offers insights from well-known journalists participating in a national forum who consider the media's contribution to propagating demagoguery. Participants will also practice techniques to teach students so that classroom conversations are civil and productive and students value respectful discourse.
