Oct. 17, 2012: 'Chester Creek Watershed Water Quality Assessment'

by Michelle Saport  |

Wednesday, Oct. 17, 12-1 p.m.
UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 304

Faculty, join us to hear the results of a community-engaged learning course and a faculty mini-grant. How does a course combine with a project? How does it work?

Frank von Hippel, Department of Biological Sciences, will talk about Biology 373 and a recent update to an existing partnership with Anchorage Waterways and Russian Jack Community Council. Students re-assessed the water and habitat quality of Chester Creek in spring 2012 and built upon six years of previous data collection.

The Center for Community Engagement & Learning (CCEL) produces the Faculty Colloquia for report outs of CCEL minigrants awarded in the previous semester. The presentations are informal, followed by discussion. Bring your lunch and join us in LIB 304 to hear about these dynamic community projects and partnerships!

Additional colloquia dates scheduled for fall:
Thursday, Nov. 15: Caroline Wilson, Biological Sciences, "Alaska Brain Bee"
