by Michelle Saport  |

UAA Dance Ensemble in concert, Oct. 26-Nov. 4Oct. 26-Nov. 4, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m.
Fine Arts Building, Harper Studio Theatre (Room 129)

The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance proudly presents its acclaimed Dance Ensemble in Concert, showcasing a fresh, new, eight-member company. The ensemble will perform original choreography by visiting guest artist Lynn Andrews and Department of Theatre and Dance's new faculty member Katherine Kramer. Also featured is a duet by Dance Ensemble Director Brian Jeffery, and a solo work by Dance Ensemble alumna Bonnie Moring.

Choreographer and visiting guest artist Lynn Andrews re-invented a work originally premiered in Birmingham, Ala. It is inspired by visual artist Dale Chihuly's work, as well as by environmental concerns surrounding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Titled "One Fish, Two Fish, Dead Fish, Blue Fish" with music by The Books, this work beautifully showcases the strength and cohesiveness of the new Dance Ensemble.

"Blackbirds" is a premiere by UAA Theatre and Dance Professor Brian Jeffery. Offered as a collection of sensations featuring Jeffery's signature style of intricately fluid movement, this duet showcases Dance Ensemble alumni Heather Riggleson and Timothy Eby with music scored by Ben Cocks and Polmo Polpo.

Frequent UAA guest artist Katherine Kramer is now a full-time instructor in the UAA Department of Theatre and Dance. Her new work "Footprints" features the Ensemble in some serious play as they follow life's internal and external pathways through a game of chance and serendipity, war and intimacy, tenderness and compassion. The eclectic work, with choreographic contributions by Maisie Stewart, features music by Yo-Yo Ma, Keb' Mo', Michel Camilo, Tin Hat Trio and Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

"Deceptions vs. Reflections" is a solo work choreographed and performed by Dance Ensemble alumna Bonnie Moring. Performed to "Smoke and Mirrors" by Gotye, this poignant piece begs the question, "If you find your true reflection, are you content with what you see in the mirror?"

These performances typically sell out! Seating is limited. Tickets are $10 for UAA students and $14 for general public. Tickets are available at UAATix.com, at the UAA Box Office or by calling (907) 786-4TIX. Free parking available.
