Distance Education and Second Life

Join us as Assistant Professor of Biology Julie Fronzuto and Virtual World Designer Don Bickley, from Prince William Sound Community College, provide an insider peek at online science labs delivered via virtual worlds. Julie and Don have been creating an innovative way for distance students to experience a real time learning environment like no other. As Julie says, "Don takes my ideas and turns them into virtual labs that we use in an online biology course, quite successfully."

SafeAssign is an anti-plagiarism plug-in for Blackboard. Find out how to set up SafeAssign to receive assignments, how to allow students to check their work for plagiarism and how SafeAssign works. We will also explore issues related to plagiarism on campus and how SafeAssign can help educate students about academic writing.

Students are using mobile devices more than ever to access course content. UAA offers the Blackboard Mobile Learn app for iPad, iPhone, Android and other mobile devices. Get an overview of the Mobile Learn app and learn how you can use it as an instructor to send out announcements and post material on the go.

Open Labs
The FTC offers open labs in LIB 214 and via eLive every Tuesday, 2:30-4:30 p.m., and Wednesday, 9-11 a.m. We welcome any question about teaching with technology: from basic how-to to designing activities for specific learning goals.
