Click for larger version.Deborah Fallows, author of 'Dreaming in Chinese,' and James Fallows, national correspondent for The Atlantic, will visit the UAA Campus Bookstore on Monday, Nov. 12, from Noon to 2 p.m.

Deborah Fallows spent the last few years absorbing the culture, the politics and the people of China to offer talks that give a refreshingly different take on the world's next superpower. Unlike many observers, she shed her Western preconceptions and relied on her background in liguistics to grasp the enormity of Chinese life through language.

James Fallows delivers a monumental and richly-textured look at everything you need to know about doing business in China. And he means everything. Reporting from China since 2006, Fallows lucidly explains the economic, political, social, environmental and cultural forces that have transformed China -- from poverty to world superpower -- at breakneck speed.

This event is sponsored by the UAA Confucius Institute, the UAA Campus Bookstore and UAA Student Activities. Seating will be very limited.

The event timetable includes time for lunch, a welcome at 12:30, self-introduction and remarks by both Deborah and James Fallows (about 10 minutes); remarks by Deborah Fallows on her new book (about 20 minutes); both writers sharing their China experiences (about 25 minutes); Q-and-A (about 30 minutes); and book signing at the close. Both authors will have books on hand.

For more information, contact the UAA Confucius Institute at (907) 786-1760 or visit their website. Another way to stay connected with the UAA Confucius Institute is to connect through their Facebook page.

James Fallows will deliver a Bartlett Lecture on Monday, Nov.12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wendy Williamson Auditorium. His topic is "Postcards from Tomorrow Square." His wife, Deborah, a China expert and linguist, will make remarks at the evening event as well.
