Emergency alert text messaging debuts at UAA; test of new system scheduled for Nov. 8, 2012

Do you want to know about snow days, UAA closures and other emergency situations that may be happening on campus as soon as the information is posted? Do you want to know about early releases due to snow or other hazardous conditions as easily as you'd hear from a friend?

Emergency alert text messaging capability has arrived at UAA! Now, in addition to receiving notices through email, social media, TV and radio, you can get a text message sent to your mobile device!

Beginning today, you can sign up to receive emergency text alerts by either updating, confirming or entering your contact information in the UA emergency alert system. For directions on signing up, access this PDF. UAA will only contact you through this system in the event of campus emergencies, weather closures or other hazardous/dangerous situations.

On Thursday, Nov. 8, UAA will conduct a test of this new alert system. Currently, the alert system is populated with contact information from Banner, though we know much of that information could be outdated. We'd like to encourage you to update your contact information prior to Thursday. Another test will be conducted at all three campuses the following week.

Please take the time to update and/or enter your emergency contact information today. After the first big snowfall, we're certain you'll be glad you did!

Thank you,
UAA's Incident Management Team
