New 'Alaska Energy Statistics' report available

by Michelle Saport  |

A preliminary report, "Alaska Energy Statistics 1960-2011," by Ginny Fay and Alejandra Villalobos Melendez of ISER and Corinna West of the Alaska Energy Authority, is now available, together with workbook tables. Final figures will be available in spring 2013.

This is the most recent annual update of energy statistics in Alaska, done for the Alaska Energy Authority. Of the 6.5 million megawatt-hours of electricity generated statewide in 2011, natural gas generated 58 percent, hydroelectric power 20 percent, diesel and other oil products 16 percent, coal 6 percent and wind less than 1 percent. That was a slight increase in shares generated by natural gas and oil products and a slight drop in the share from hydroelectric power.
