by Michelle Saport  |

Spamalot is back! Nov. 16-Dec. 9Show dates: Nov. 16-Dec. 9
Showtimes: Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m.
Location: UAA Mainstage Theatre (Fine Arts Building, Room 220)

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Tony Award-winning Monty Python's Spamalot brings knights in tights to UAA's Mainstage Theatre! This musical sensation tells the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy Grail.

With books, lyrics and music by Eric Idle and John Du Prez, Spamalot shines under the direction of UAA Department of Theatre & Dance Chair Tom Skore and boasts an extravagant set design by Daniel Carlgren, decadent costuming by Colleen Metzger, lighting by Daniel Anteau and choreography by Kristen Vierthaler.

While predominantly a UAA student production, the show has an abundance of outstanding local theatre and dance community talent. It also represents a major collaborative effort between the Music Department and the Department of Theatre & Dance, with live music by a UAA jazz combo under the direction of Lynette Harple.

This parody of a parody is rich with outrageous musical numbers and, like most of Monty Python's movies, highly irreverent. The cast is 22 strong and filled with some of the wildest, nuttiest characters imaginable. It promises to be a highly energetic and entertaining evening of theatre. Need we say more? Ni!
