UAA's Department of Theatre and Dance is holding open auditions for "When you Comin' Back, Red Ryder?" Feb. 10. Written by Mark Medoff and directed by David Edgecombe, Ph.D., "Red Ryder" represents a searing conflict between generations and classes as a violent hostage crisis explodes in a 1960's New Mexican diner. This play is particularly relevant in this age of corporate theft and world terrorism. Roles for eight males and three females, ages 16-70, are available in this play, dubbed "...a barometer of social and psychic change in America" by The New York Times.

Cast of characters:
Stephen "Red" Slesinger: A nightshift cook with slicked-back hair; a young James Dean wannabe. He is hell-bent on "getting the hell outta this place."
Angel: A waitress who has a crush on Stephen.
Teddy: A long-haired, drug-dealing Vietnam vet gone psycho.
Clarisse: Smart, independent concert violinist.
Richard: Husband to Clarisse; a well-bred New Yorker.
Clark: The diner's owner.
Lyle: An older man who runs the service station across from the diner.

Scripts are available in the Arts office (ARTS 302). For questions or more information, contact Professor Edgecombe at dpedgcombe@uaa.alaska.edu or (907) 786-1794.
