Cabin Fever Debates continue Feb. 19, 2013

Four down...four to go until the semifinalists for Cabin Fever Debates are determined. On Feb. 12, rounds three and four of the competition were held. In Round 3, team "Dillingborn," Arlo Davis and Alex Smith took first place, earning an automatic bid to the semifinal round on March 5. Joining team Dillingborn in the semifinal will be the winners of Round 4, "Snugg Nasty," Courtney Owen and Travis Smith. Up next, the Seawolf Debate team is proud to sponsor Rounds 5 and 6 on Feb. 19.

Round 5: Tuesday, Feb. 19, 7 p.m. Social Sciences Building, Room 118

The first debate will address the motion "This house supports the targeted killing of U.S. citizens deemed to be a threat to U.S. security under the legal guidelines established by the Department of Justice." Defending the motion in the role of 1st Proposition will be the team "Hyvent," Isaac Cottrell (freshman, psychology) and Elijah Ellert (sophomore, process technology). Closing the debate for the proposition will be "Team Mocha," Duke Kahumoku (junior, political science) & Jonathon Taylor (junior, political science). Opening the opposition debate will be "Biggie Smalls," Corey Hester (junior, journalism) and Cale Green (senior, political science). The 2nd Opposition team will be "Psych Gurlz," Katharine Browning (junior, psychology) and Heidi Knapp (senior, psychology).

Round 6: Tuesday, Feb. 19, 8:30 p.m. Social Sciences Building, Room 118

Round 6 will feature the teams of: 1st Proposition "YOLOSWAG," Melanie Leydon (senior, economics) and Blake Steenhoven (senior, economics); 1st Opposition "Frozen Rejects," Taylor McCann (freshman, political science) and Max Bullock (sophomore, business management); 2nd Proposition "BAFSU," Brianna McLaughhlin (freshman, athletic training) and Macie Rogers (freshman, psychology & justice); and 2nd Opposition "Adams & Simon," Judson Adams (senior, justice) and Mark Simon (junior, justice). They will be debating the motion "The State of Alaska should pass legislation that prohibits both public institutions and private employers from requesting access to social media accounts of its employees, applicants or students as a condition of employment or acceptance" at 8:30 p.m.
