Summer 2013: Community Cinema continues with free movies every third Wednesday

In conjunction with Community Cinema, Student Activities will be showing one film a month addressing world happenings. The showings are free for everyone.

Community Cinema is a groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative featuring monthly screenings of films from the Emmy Award-winning PBS series "Independent Lens." Every month between September and June, Community Cinema brings together leading organizations, community members and public television stations to learn, discuss and get involved in today's critical social issues. Here's what's playing:

The Powerbroker Wednesday, Feb. 27, 7:30 p.m. Rasmuson Hall, Room 101

"The Powerbroker" tells the story of Whitney M. Young Jr., one of the most celebrated and controversial leaders of the civil rights era.

Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines Wednesday, March 27, 7:30 p.m. Rasmuson Hall, Room 101

Trace the fascinating evolution and legacy of the original comic book Amazon, Wonder Woman.

The Island President Wednesday, April 24, 7:30 p.m. Rasmuson Hall, Room 101

Maldive's President Mohamed Nasheed is confronting a problem greater than any world leader has ever faced--the literal survival of his country and everyone in it.

The Revolutionary Optimists Wednesday, May 29, 7:30 p.m. Rasmuson Hall, Room 101

CANCELLED: Love Free or Die Wednesday, June 26, 7:30 p.m. Rasmuson Hall, Room 101

"Love Free or Die" is about a man who has two defining passions that the world cannot reconcile: his love for God and for his partner Mark.
