Science students link up with long-distance professor

Mikebodeclass copyTechnology brought students closer in their quest to understand the galaxy when they had a virtual guest lecturer from the Astrophysics Research Institute in the UK recently.

Professor Michael Bode, who wrote one of the texts for the Liberal Studies Integrated Sciences class, spoke to students about the exploding stars known as novae, helping them with their project to estimate how many of the events occur annually in the M31 galaxy.

Professor Travis Rector is leading the National Science Foundation-funded Nova Search project locally. Michelle Wooten, the course instructor, helped to facilitate the virtual visit with Professor Bode.
