2013 Week of the Arctic, Aug. 12-18

by Michelle Saport  |

The University and Alaska Fairbanks and the Institute of the North will host presentations, roundtable discussions and workshops Aug. 12-18 in Anchorage, as part of the 2013 Week of the Arctic. The week celebrates America's status as an Arctic nation and explores ways to expand Alaska's role in the Arctic. As maritime traffic and new opportunities for development in the Arctic region continue to grow, understanding and working toward safe, secure operations on land in Alaska and off its coast are increasingly important. The Week of the Arctic addresses this with discussions on: Workforce Development in Northern Regions; Northern Energy Efficiency, Architecture and Design; Search and Rescue Planning and Exercises; Oil Spill Response; Alaska Arctic Collaborative Partnership; and Arctic Council Projects.
