On July 8, Donna Massay and Matanuska-Susitna College (MSC) Director Talis Colberg signed the final paperwork establishing the Glenn Massay Endowed Scholarship for students at MSC. Massay endowed $25,000 earlier this month to start the scholarship in memory of her husband, Glenn Massay, who passed away in February.

Glenn Massay served as the director of MSC twice, from 1988-94 and 1999-2000. He had a long and distinguished career of public service to the university and his country. He was born in Beaver Falls, Pa. and attended Bethany College and California State Teachers College for his undergraduate study. He went on to earn a master's and doctorate in history from the University of West Virginia, where he became involved in community college administration, which led him to Alaska. In 1974, Massay was hired as the founding president for Tanana Valley Community College in Fairbanks and served as the academic dean at MSC before being selected as the director in 1988.

Massay was active in both college and valley communities. He served as president of the Palmer Chamber of Commerce, as an actor in the Valley Performing Arts troupe and an accomplished baritone in various musical endeavors. The university honored him with emeritus status upon his retirement and Massay remained actively engaged in the development of the campus until his passing at the age of 81 in February.

Glenn Massay devoted a substantial portion of his life and passion to ensuring that opportunities, as the college slogan says, would indeed start at MSC.
