The Dean of Students Office invites faculty to open forums with finalists for the counselor liaison to faculty position. Application materials will be available at the open forums.

Counselor liaison to faculty position overview: The university seeks an individual who follows a student-centered counseling and consulting philosophy, regularly infuses student development theory into daily practices and encourages and supports students in their pursuit of a safe, well-balanced life, leading to academic and personal success. The counselor liaison to faculty reports to the Dean of Students & Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Development and works collaboratively with faculty, academic departments, Division of Student Affairs departments and staff to support student success.

Counselor liaison to faculty position duties: Personal counseling: Assist students, individually and in a group, with the process of problems and conflict resolution, establishing appropriate coping behavior and strategies so they can productively achieve their educational and life goals.

Faculty liaison: Liaison to faculty and academic departments providing faculty support, to include: consultation, mediation, behavior contracts, meetings with faculty and student to address concerns, workshops and collaborating one-on-one with faculty to support student success.

Support for survivors of sexual assault: Assist survivors of sexual offenses, other types of assaults and domestic violence with counseling, networking and referrals to campus and community resources.

Life skills development: Assist students experiencing difficulties with resolving educational problems to make appropriate connections with UAA faculty and staff and external agency staff.

Crisis response: Serve as a level 2 responder on the Incident Management Team (IMT) providing immediate response to crisis counseling situations, in classrooms, campus-wide and in the residence halls, dealing with critical injuries such as accidents, highly disruptive classroom incidents, sexual and non-sexual assaults, actual or threats of harm to self and others. Incidents may occur in the evenings and weekends with little or no advance notice and this position provides "after-hours" support to these incidents.

Workshops and educational materials: Plan, present, facilitate, produce workshops and educational materials on enhancing life skills, relationship issues, personal safety, domestic violence, sexual assault. Network with outside agencies.

Train student leaders and professional staff on counseling related topics such as responding with care and empathy to students in crisis, supporting students at risk of self-harm, identifying signs of depression and supporting students of concern.
