Fall 2013: Parking on-campus is limited; please plan ahead

Construction season is still in full swing on campus. (A map of all current projects is available here.) As a result, parking on campus is severely limited and much different from last semester. UAA's New Construction Blog just published a complete list of current on-campus parking options. If you'll be driving to campus, please bookmark this resource, and remember to allow yourself extra travel time and keep a back-up plan. Parking Services will also be open later the first few weeks of the semester to better serve you.

Closure of Elmore: Elmore Road is closed between Sharon Gagnon Lane and University Lake Drive to bikes, pedestrians and vehicles. The closure is expected to last until Sept. 2.

• You can get to Housing using Elmore from Tudor.
• You can get to University Lake Building and Annex using Providence Drive.

South Lot parking space loss: Engineering & Industry Building construction is underway in the South Lot and parking there is out of service except for three bays (approximately 190 spaces).

• Additional parking is available in the North Lot (north of Gordon Hartlieb Hall), with more spaces becoming available during the semester.
• The Seawolf Shuttle has added a stop in the North Lot.
• Additional parking is available in the recently expanded Health Sciences Building Lot.

Parking at the University Center: Park in the UAA parking area at UC and ride the Seawolf Shuttle to main campus.

• Shuttle leaves every 20 minutes from the south entrance, starting at 7:52 a.m.
• Shuttle routes leave from nearly every lot on campus. Schedules are available on the Seawolf Shuttle website. To track the next bus, download the WolfTracks shuttle GPS app for iPhone or Android or use the TEXT feature.
• People Mover bus routes 2, 36, 60 and 102 all stop within a few blocks of the UC. Students, staff and faculty can ride any of these for free with their WolfCARD.

Parking information to remember: Enforcement resumes on Aug. 26, the first day of classes.

• To order a parking permit, go to uaa.thepermitstore.com.
• New Pay 'N Park machines were installed over the summer. They accept exact cash only (no change given) and $1, $5 or credit/debit cards.
• Be a good neighbor and please park in designated UAA parking areas only! Parking in areas surrounding UAA may result in citations, fines or vehicles being booted or towed.

Other alternatives: For those looking to avoid the hassles of parking, there are several alternative options. Zimride connects people looking to carpool. The Seawolf Shuttle makes a continual loop of campus, the University Center and Aviation Complex on days when classes are in session. Students, staff and faculty can ride any People Mover or Valley Mover bus for free with current ID. And the campus conveniently lies at the heart of Anchorage's trail system, making biking, walking or even skiing a viable way to reach campus.

In these times of change and construction, all it takes is a few extra minutes of planning your campus commute to save yourself from being late to your first class.
