Matt and Kim - Sept. 26, 2013

by Michelle Saport  |

Thursday, Sept. 26, 7:30-10 p.m. Egan Center (555 W. 5th Ave.)

Matt and Kim formed in 2004 shortly after Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino met while attending art school at the Pratt Institute. The energetic, synth-fueled rock duo worked their way out of playing shows in basements and upgraded to large venues and music festivals in a few short years. Matt and Kim are known for their hard rhythms, fun yet thoughtful lyrics and intimate live performances.

"When we first started playing venues instead of playing on the floor at parties," Matt said, "we tried hard to keep the vibe of 'we're all doing this together and having a wild time' going. The show is not just the two of us: It's the 3,002 of us, or however big the venue is."

As Rolling Stone put it, "Matt and Kim's reputation as a live act precedes them-and justifiably so. Simply put, they are a two-person dynamo-frantic, tightly wound and full of good cheer. Their performances are as physical as they are musical... For sheer adrenaline-per-second, no other band comes close."
