Medical Anthropologist Kylea Liese presents 'Maternal Mortality and Survival Across the Tajikistan/Afghanistan Border,' Oct. 11

by Michelle Saport  |

Friday, Oct. 11, 4-6 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Northern Afghanistan has the highest maternal mortality ratio in the world. Meanwhile, women just across the border in Tajikistan are sixty-five times less likely to die in childbirth. Kylea Liese's research, collected during more than 15 months of fieldwork, explains this striking variation with ethnographic data that brings anthropology, medicine and global health together.

This event is co-sponsored by the UAA Anthropology Department and Anthropology Club. For more information, visit the UAA Campus Bookstore website or contact Rachel at repstein2@uaa.alaska.edu or (907) 786-4782.
