Great Alaska ShakeOut 2013

by Michelle Saport  |

UAA will be participating in the Great Alaska ShakeOut on 10/17 at 10:17 a.m. As part of a nationwide effort to educate people on the correct response to an earthquake, Alaskans will be directed on Thursday to drop to the floor, cover their bodies with a desk or just their arms and hold on to the desk until the shaking is over ("Stop! Cover! Hold on!"). Officials will announce the drill through the on-campus paging system by taking over the speakerphone function of our Cisco VoIP telephones. Note that some classrooms do not yet have a telephone, so people in those classrooms will not hear the scripted alert. Please take the drill seriously, as it will help everyone remember what to do to stay safe from falling debris during an actual earthquake.
