Monday, Oct. 28, 5-7 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Literary icon Theodore Roethke comes to life in the brilliant play "I Teach Out of Love." This intimate critique of Roethke's influence on American literature includes readings written by his former students, including poets Richard Hugo, David Wagoner, James Wright, Jack Gilbert and Carolyn Kizer, plus a segment from the play "First Class" by David Wagoner focusing on Roethke the teacher. Sandy Kleven wrote the script, and cast members include Jerry McDonnell as Theodore Roethke, Jason Eisert as David Wagoner, Judith Stoll as Louise Bogan, Betsy Doud as Carolyn Kizer and Elizabeth L. Thompson as Tess Gallagher.

Sandy Kleven is an alumna of UAA's M.F.A. program, the editor of the literary journal Cirque and author of "Holy Land" and "The Right Touch." Her first collection of poems and other writing, "Defiance Street," will be released later this fall.
