The Department of Residence Life is pleased to share Residence Coordinators Michael Smith and Ryan Hill will represent UAA at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Annual Conference in Baltimore, Md., in March 2014, with two presentations.

"Same Generation, New Challenges: Transforming Advising for New Professionals" Presented by Ryan Hill, North Hall and First Year Experience residence coordinator

What does it look like when millennials advise student leaders of the millennial generation? Advising responsibilities in Student Affairs often fall onto the shoulders of graduate students and new professionals, many of whom belong to the same generation as our students. The millennial generation is marked by specific characteristics that can lead to rewarding advising experiences when done correctly. This program will identify the challenges of millennials advising millennials, as well as provide the tools needed to innovatively lead and connect with student leaders on college campuses of this generation.

"Campus Community Emergency Response Teams and the Role You Can Play" Presented by Michael Smith, West Hall residence coordinator

Campus safety has been at the forefront of college administration in recent years. Threats range from severe weather emergencies to armed persons on campus. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training aims to help individuals and teams develop core competencies to aid in the event of an emergency on campus. The training is sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and can play an integral part in the safety of college and university campuses. This session will focus on how CERT can help your campus and how a team can be trained in your area. This poster session will also discuss how the trainings can be tailored to your campus's needs.

Please join us in congratulating Mike Smith and Ryan Hill.
