To celebrate the accomplishments of Junior Achievement of Alaska in building strong foundations with Alaska's youth, Alaska's National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) of UAA will host the second annual Spring Gala on April 19, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. at the Anchorage Hilton.

The fun, Academy Award-themed event will feature Cary Carrigan hosting as master of ceremonies, an elegant dinner and live entertainment by performers such as the Pulse Dance Academy, Rumboso Ballroom and the UAA Hip-Hop Performers. There will be live and silent auctions to benefit Junior Achievement of Alaska, as well as Alaska's NSLS programs and services.

"I'm impressed by the partnership between Alaska's National Society of Leadership and Success and Junior Achievement of Alaska," said U.S. Senator Mark Begich. "Both organizations do great work to help kids reach their full potential by preparing them for future leadership roles and by teaching financial literacy skills they can use throughout their lives. Thanks to the hard work of these two organizations, more than 10,000 Alaska students will have the skills they need to succeed."

Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan will present to Alice Rogoff, publisher of the Alaska Dispatch, the Alaska's Significant Community Engagement of the Year Award; and to Jonathan Bittner, vice president of Anchorage Economic Development Corporation, the Alaska's Exceptional Leadership of the Year award. UAA Chancellor Tom Case will also present the annual UAA Professor of the Year: Influence in Education Award to English Professor Clay Nunnally.

The 2014 awardees were selected from a pool of more than 100 nominations for their extraordinary leadership or influence within their respected fields to inform, educate and better the Alaska community as a whole. The awardees together promote leadership, community service, education and volunteerism at an exceptional level through their professional capacities.

"Junior Achievement of Alaska is proud to be partnering this year with NSLS at the Spring Gala. The partnership of Junior Achievement and NSLS ensures career readiness and leadership opportunities for Alaska's students from kindergarten through college," said Flora Teo, president of Junior Achievement of Alaska

"By working together, we can achieve something greater than either of us could do alone" said Allan Carraway, Spring Gala chair.
