Thursday, April 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m. ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building, Room 105A

Curious about what you can achieve with a degree in biological sciences? Come hear Robert Beckman, project scientist for ERM Alaska Inc., discuss his life at a multidisciplinary environmental consulting firm as a biologist. This event is free and open to the public. Pizza will be provided.

About the speaker: Robert graduated in 2008 from UAA with a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences. Following graduation, he entered the field of environmental consulting with the hopes of focusing on environmental biology. Over the last six years however, he has experienced the diversity a multi-disciplined environmental consulting firm has to offer. His primary areas of expertise are in contaminated site investigation and remediation, oil spill response and environmental impact and assessment planning. He has participated in investigation and remediation projects across the state for the Alaska oil and gas industry, Department of Defense, local government and private industry. He has spent the past six years conducting habitat and wildlife assessments and wetland delineations for a variety of proposed infrastructure development projects in Alaska. Prior to graduating, he was a licensed veterinary technician and wildlife rehabilitator. He is a member of multiple offshore oil spill response teams, for which he participated clinically in local wildlife oil spill response efforts and served as an oiled wildlife responder during the Deepwater Horizon spill, treating affected birds in the Gulf of Mexico.
