April 2014: UAA Opera Ensemble presents 'Threepenny Opera'

Saturday, April 26, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 4 p.m. Fine Arts Building, Room 150

"Threepenny Opera," a collaborative work between Kurt Weill and Bertolt Bercht, was controversial in its day as a politico-societal commentary against the decadence of 1920s Germany and the disparity between the rich and the poor. The theme is as timeless as the music and remains a popular piece to this day. Larger-than-life characters such as Mack the Knife, Jenny Diver and Polly Peachum perform torch songs vibrant with jazz and cabaret influences.

"Threepenny Opera" features performances by UAA voice majors, direction by Mari Hahn and set design by Carrie Yanagawa. The show contains mature content. Some language and content may be offensive. Tickets are available at the UAA Box Office, (907) 786-4TIX or UAATix.com.
