July 22-24, 2014: 'Multi-Hazard Emergency Planning for Higher Education' training to be offered at UAA

This Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) course is designed for delivery to teams of personnel responsible for creating, reviewing, implementing and exercising emergency operations plans (EOPs). The target audience for this course includes people who have traditional response or strategic experience, but minimal experience in emergency management planning. The three-day course, scheduled for July 22-24, consists primarily of interactive presentations coupled with numerous individual and group exercises.

Topics to be covered include:

  • An overview of emergency management;
  • Identifying hazards and using a risk assessment process;
  • Managing your Emergency Operations Center (EOC) using ICS (Incident Command System);
  • Partnering with the community;
  • Developing and/or revising your Emergency Operations Plan;
  • Training and testing the plans; and
  • Engaging the campus community.

For a successful delivery, a sufficient number of teams and range of job positions within each team is needed. The target team size is four to eight members. The class size is limited to 30 seats.

Organizers are seeking UAA participants who work in the following departments and/or positions:

  • Campus administrators;
  • Environmental Health & Safety/Risk Management Support staff;
  • Risk manager;
  • Public information officer;
  • Security and/or public safety officers;
  • Facilities management;
  • Food/dining services director;
  • Student Affairs staff;
  • Employee/Occupational Health;
  • Counseling Services;
  • Information Technology Services; and
  • Faculty and/or student representatives.

There is no fee for attending this course, but participants will pay their own travel expenses (if necessary).
