Aron Crowell, adjunct professor in the UAA Department of Anthropology, was recently named the 2014 recipient of the Smithsonian's Education Achievement Award, which recognizes excellence in serving the nation through educational programming, exhibits, publications and digital media. Recipients are selected by an external panel of national museum and education professionals. The announcement noted:

"Dr. Aron Crowell, research anthropologist and director of the Alaska Office of the Arctic Studies Center at the National Museum of Natural History, received the achievement award for his consistent and outstanding performance in education. Aron works with Alaska Natives to bring the Smithsonian to the community as a living resource and to establish a network for knowledge exchanges, which involves multidisciplinary and multicultural learning that encompasses diverse audiences."

Aron has extended his thanks and appreciation to Assistant Curator Dawn Biddison for her collaborative work in helping to produce the Arctic Studies Center's diverse arts, education and language programs, and to the Anchorage Museum, which has hosted the ASC since 1994 and supports its "Living Our Cultures, Sharing Our Heritage" exhibition and public events. Aron will travel to Washington, D.C., to receive the Education Achievement Award on June 3.

Congratulations, Aron!
