UAA Summer Engineering Academies program adds two sessions

by Michelle Saport  |

Due to popular demand, two new UAA Summer Engineering Academies sessions have been added for students in sixth through ninth grade. These weeklong, hands-on instructional opportunities are designed to inspire students and provide exposure to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The academies also seek to support historically underserved and underrepresented students who might otherwise have limited opportunities for these experiences.

Each weeklong session explores a particular topic. The newly added sessions for middle school students focus on structure design (July 21-25) and energy (July 28-Aug. 1). There are also a few slots remaining in sessions designed for high school students on java programming and robotics, as well as gears and sprockets, in which students will be able to build a drive train for a remote-controlled car.

All sessions are open until filled, with earliest registrants receiving slots in the most popular sessions. For additional information and to register, visit the UAA Summer Engineering Academies website.
