New book from UAA psychology professor offers solutions to prevent premature termination in psychotherapy

by Michelle Saport  |

Joshua Swift, professor in the UAA Department of Psychology, is the co-author of Premature termination in psychotherapy: Strategies for engaging clients and improving outcomes, scheduled to be published by the American Psychological Association this September.

Recent estimates suggest at least 20 percent of adult clients terminate psychotherapy prematurely. In the new publication, Swift and co-author Roger Greenberg identify common factors leading to premature termination and offer eight strategies to address these factors and help reduce client dropout rates. The book also features case examples to help professionals employ the strategies in real-life scenarios.
