New oil and gas grant pays student tuition and fees

The State of Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development granted funding to the Community & Technical College's Nondestructive Testing Technology program to cover the costs of student tuition, fees, books and equipment leading to the occupational endorsement certificate.
The state-funding program, called the Alaska Oil and Gas Training Fund, provides one-year grants to upgrade the skills of incumbent or new workers and any change in occupation that will result in continued employment or higher wages. A cohort of up to 12 students will begin the program during the fall 2014 semester and finish the 20-credit-hour certificate program during the spring semester.
The UAA grant program will also provide North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) instruction leading to the NSTC card at no cost to the student. Combined, the certificate and NSTC card credentials will render program graduates highly desirable to the industry as entry-level professionals.

Interested parties should contact the Welding & Nondestructive Testing Technology program at (907) 786-6475 to learn more about eligibility requirements and to request an application. Graduates of the certificate program may apply credits toward the Associate of Applied Science degree in welding and nondestructive testing technology.
