Be among the first to enter the doors of the Alaska Airlines Center on Friday, Sept. 5. Join UAA as the ribbon is cut and the new center is dedicated and opened for our students and community. Take a backstage tour of the new 5,000-plus seat facility, enjoy light refreshments and learn about the exciting things happening at UAA. Be sure to stick around for the SpringHill Suites Volleyball Tournament at 7 p.m. to cheer on the Seawolves as they take on LIU Post.

SpringHill Suites Volleyball Tournament
The Seawolf Volleyball team opens their 13-match regular-season home slate with the 18th annual SpringHill Suites Invitational. Come cheer on the Seawolves as they play a double-round robin format against Saint Leo (Fla.) and LIU Post (N.Y.). Complete schedule below and more information here.

UAA Spirit Run
Saturday, Sept. 6, 10 a.m. (start)
Cost: $5 for general public; free for UAA students

Come show your UAA pride at the UAA Spirit Run brought to you by Subway and sponsored by UAA Student Activities. The run will wind through campus, starting and ending at the Alaska Airlines Center. Runners are encouraged to dress in green and gold. Food, refreshments and entertainment will be provided following the run. The first 100 runners to sign up will receive a complimentary UAA Spirit Run memorabilia t-shirt.

McDonald's Youth Sports Day
Get ready to amp up your game and refine your skills at the McDonald's Youth Sports Day. UAA Men's and Women's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics will be hosting clinics throughout the afternoon for youth ages 10-14 (5th-8th grade). Student athletes and UAA coaches will be leading the skills clinics that will each last between 1.5 hours and 2.5 hours. Start times are still TBD. Registration is limited. Taste of Alaska Charity Event
Wednesday, Sept. 10, 5-8 p.m.
Admission: $10 and a can of food

Are you a die-hard foodie? Do you love the local Anchorage eats? Join the Alaska Airlines Center for an evening of delicious foods from around the area. Local vendors and restaurants share favorite dishes and desserts.

Live chef demos from Head Chef Rob of Crush Bistro, Chef Reuben from the Crow's Nest and Chef Al from Kincaid Grill, as well as live music performed by Hot Club of Nunaka. Wines and local brews will be available for those of age. All ages welcome. Proceeds will benefit the UAA Emergency Food Fund. Please bring canned goods to be donated to the Food Bank of Alaska in honor of Nation Hunger Month.

'Service Before Self'
Thursday, Sept. 11, 6-9 p.m.
Admission: Free, open to the public

"Service Before Self" is an evening dedicated to our Alaska first responders and military. The event will include a silent auction in honor of 9/11, featuring the art of our first responders and military. A blood drive will also be held throughout the day.

Drive-In Movie and Food Truck Rodeo
Friday, Sept. 12, 5 p.m.-midnight
Admission: Free

The Alaska Airlines Center is excited to bring back the nostalgia of the drive-in movie with the style of the 21st century. Starting at 5 p.m., a rodeo of local food trucks will be located in the parking lot of the arena for your dining pleasure. At sundown (approximately 9 p.m.), we will project a movie (title TBA soon) onto the face of the new Alaska Airlines Center. Sound will be broadcast through FM radio, as well as speakers for those planning to join on foot. Food trucks and vendors will serve throughout the movie.

Alabama Shakes
Saturday, Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m.
Alaska Airlines Center

Come watch the Grammy-nominated Alabama Shakes play the opening concert at our new Alaska Airlines Center. Tickets are available at AlaskaAirlinesCenter.com. Advance tickets are $49.50 for the general public. UAA students enrolled for fall 2014 (taking three or more on-campus credits in Anchorage) are eligible for discounted $28 tickets since they've paid their Concert Board fee.

Howlapalooza: Anchorage's first annual local music and art festival
Sunday, Sept. 14, 1-11 p.m.
Admission: Free from 1-6 p.m.; $10 admission ($5 for UAA students) from 7-11 p.m.

The Howlapalooza Music and Arts Festival will feature two stages, a DJ booth, arts and craft vendors, food carts and more than 10 hours of live music by local artists.

Local music acts include: The Whipsaws, Ghost Hands, The Rebel Blues Band, Thera, Turquoise Boy, Anna Lynch Band, Yngvil Vatn Guttu, Hot Dish, Sophia Street, Emma Hill and more. DJs include: DJ Spencer Lee, Alex the Lion, Laserwolf and Rikki Tikki.
