'The Power of Creativity to Transform a Life,' Oct. 9

Join Alaska Quarterly Review and the Alaska Center for the Book in sharing "The Power of Creativity to Transform a Life."

This launch of the new issue of AQR features a premiere dramatic reading of "How I Became a Poet," a story in the new edition by Steven Schutzman about a young girl whose encounter with a visiting poet in elementary school changes both their lives.

Following the dramatic reading by talented Anchorage actor Sarah Bethany Baird, AQR Editor Ron Spatz will moderate a panel discussion with:

  • Dr. Thad Woodard, Anchorage pediatrician and host of KSKA's "Line One Your Health Connection;"
  • Carol Sturgulewski, local writer and editor;
  • Susan Dererra, a high school English teacher; and
  • Joan Kane, an award-winning poet, an author of Hyperboreal.
