MFS15_150x150The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) announced today that it has been designated a 2015 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media. The Military Friendly® Schools designation is awarded to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation.

This is the sixth consecutive year that UAA has earned designation as a Military Friendly® School. The university is proud of the 2,094 active-duty servicemen and women, veterans and their dependents, who chose to attend UAA in 2013-2014. The number of military and veteran students enrolled at UAA has increased 34 percent in the past three years and 61 percent in five years. This is due in part to the implementation of a variety of supportive services, coordinated by the UAA Military and Veteran Student Resource Center.

Through the center, UAA offers programming including Seawolf Boot Camp, workshop sessions designed to raise staff and faculty awareness of the military and veteran student education benefits, and college transition factors. The center also houses and collaborates with the VetSuccess On Campus counselor, partnering with Veteran Affairs to establish a network of support for each military and veteran student.
