Fall 2014 Global Opportunities Expo

Take full advantage of the multiple events taking place this Tuesday and Wednesday as part of the UAA Office of International and Intercultural Affair's fall Global Opportunities Expo.

Global Opportunities Signature Event Wednesday, Oct. 15, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Explore the intersection of study abroad, academic opportunities and international careers and internships. Drop by any time between to talk with:

  • Representatives from five of UAA's study abroad affiliate programs;
  • UAA Department of Languages (ask about majoring or minoring in a language, career paths, graduate study and more);
  • Peace Corps (serve abroad, with the option of earning a master's degree);
  • Japan Exchange and Teaching program (teach English as a second language in Japan);
  • UAA Career Services Center;
  • UAA Confucius Institute (promoting Chinese language and culture);
  • Alaska World Affairs Council (special opportunity for UAA students to hear their great luncheon speakers free of charge);
  • UAA Honors College (prestigious scholarships, fellowships and grants for international study and research);
  • Student information advisor (an opportunity to ask your financial aid questions); and the
  • Education abroad coordinator from the Office of International and Intercultural Affairs.

Alaska Native Students...Where will you go?! Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Eugene Short Hall, Room 209 Presented by Anne Frey from Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University and co-sponsored by Alaska Native Studies.

Study Abroad with Semester at Sea Tuesday, Oct. 14, 4-4:45 p.m. Sally Monserud Hall, Room 108 Presented by Karla Correll from Semester at Sea

Funding Your Study Abroad Experience Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Student Union, Student Lounge (second floor) Presented by our study abroad partners, Joe Hopkins, student information advisor, and UAA's education abroad coordinator.

Language Games and Pizza Night Tuesday, Oct. 14, 8-10 p.m. Gorsuch Commons, Room 106

Join your friends and teachers from the Department of Languages classes for an evening of board games. Free pizza available for all participants. All are welcome! Co-sponsored by the Languages Department and Residence Life.

Study Abroad Only Table Fairs Tuesday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., in Lucy Cuddy Hall Tuesday, 5:30-8 p.m., in Gorsuch Commons, Hallway

Delve into your possibilities to study abroad as a UAA student. Speak with representatives from five of UAA's study abroad partner programs:

  • Sam from AHA International;
  • Julie from Academic Programs International (API);
  • Michelle from American Institute for Study Abroad (AIFS);
  • Anne from Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University (IFSA-Butler); and
  • Karla from Semester at Sea (SAS).

Education abroad opportunities include programs taught in English, language and cultural immersion programs, internships, service learning, undergraduate research or a combination of these things. There are summer, semester and year programs, as well as financial aid and scholarships to help cover the costs.
