"Dear UAA Community,

It is with great sadness that we as a community mourn the untimely and tragic loss of our colleague and friend Marvell Johnson. Mr. Johnson died in his home on Tuesday.

Mr. Johnson worked at UAA for 34 years, the last 24 as a supervisor in Facilities and Campus Services. He was also well-known to many in our Anchorage community as host of "Soul to Soul," a music show on Anchorage public radio KSKA for four decades.

"Marvell was always positive, always wanted great things for everybody," said Chris Turletes, associate vice chancellor for facilities and campus services. "He was an Army Veteran and foster parent for lots of kids over lots of years," Chris added.

When a colleague and friend dies suddenly and traumatically we are called upon to support one another in healing and compassion.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Mr. Johnson's family, friends, and those who knew him best.

Sincerely, Tom Case Chancellor"

The service for Marvell Johnson is Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Evergreen Funeral Home (737 E St.). There will be an open casket visitation from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a service.
