Transgender Day of Remembrance is an event to memorialize those who have been killed or experienced fear or hatred as a result of being transgender or gender non-conforming people. It is also an opportunity to bring attention to the ongoing violence still being experienced by the transgender community.

There will be a candle light vigil during the event.

UAA anthropologist Roy Mitchell will give a short talk at the opening of the evening on Alaska Native transgendered individuals in traditional Tlingit, Eyak, Sugpiaq and Unangax cultures. He will review what little is known about male-to-female transgenders among all four groups, and female-to-male transgenders among Sugpiaq and Unangax Aleuts.
