Thursday, Jan. 29, 2:30-4 p.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

The Department of Biological Sciences has completed the search process for the position of assistant professor in applied environmental microbiology and would like to invite you to a series of presentations given by the candidates. The candidates will introduce you to their work and what they have to offer UAA.

The department is pleased to invite you to the fourth presentation, "Unraveling Bioremediation in Sphingomonads," given by Erica Hartmann, Ph.D., on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015.

Hartmann studies bacteria in the environment using tools like proteomics to understand microbial metabolism of organic pollutants such as dioxins, and is further interested in how individual microbes and microbial communities evolve in response to anthropogenic chemicals and other stimuli.

Hartmann received her B.S. in cellular and molecular biology from Johns Hopkins University, and received her Ph.D. in biological design from Arizona State University. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow with the Biology and the Built Environment Center of the University of Oregon.
