Don Rearden's 'The Raven's Gift' selected for Anchorage Reads

UAA Professor Don Rearden's novel The Raven's Gift was selected for the Anchorage Public Library's 2015 Anchorage Reads. The program is a one-book, one-community celebration of reading that promotes literacy, love of reading and community.

"I couldn't believe it when they chose my book. To have your work honored at home in Alaska, in this way, is really special," said Rearden, an associate professor in the Community & Technical College. "To have my title added to the list of other books that have been selected for Anchorage Reads, like To Kill A Mockingbird and Fahrenheit 451 is something I'll always treasure!" Rearden's book made it onto The Washington Post's "Notable Fiction of 2013" list in which he was hailed as a "master of the cliffhanger." Community members from the Anchorage School District and the UAA/APU Books of the Year program helped select the book and design the programming for Anchorage Reads. The goal is to encourage reading, promote the library and connect the Anchorage community. Anchorage Reads will run Feb. 20-March 20, 2015. Activities will include book club groups, a readers' theater performance, an Author Talk by Rearden and story times for younger readers featuring a visit by Crawford the Raven.
