'Responding to Toxic Behavior in Departments' performance and faculty discussion, Feb. 20

by Michelle Saport  |

Friday, Feb. 20, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

(Light lunch provided. Please RSVP to eroderick@uaa.alaska.edu. Today's session is the last opportunity to attend this workshop.)

Please join us for the final performance of a theater piece depicting common colleague-to-colleague toxic dynamics within departments and a discussion of how best to address such challenging behaviors.

The most recent UAA Faculty and Staff Satisfaction survey indicated a widespread concern among faculty about academic bullying and a perception that UAA needs to respond more effectively to reports of toxic behavior within departments.

Universities across the country are exploring a range of responses to toxic behavior, from additional language in mission, union and hiring documents; to supporting the development of departmental codes of conduct; to adding "collegiality" as a fourth criteria for P and T and hiring decisions.

United Academics, the Provost and CAFE have been hosting a series of discussions about the next steps to take to ensure all faculty can work in safe and supportive environments.

In spring 2014, UAA faculty and staff worked with a scriptwriter to develop an interactive theater piece that explores some of the ways academic bullying can affect the dynamics within a department.

Come watch the performance and discuss next steps to help ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all UAA faculty.
